Alipurduar, Dec. 1: The discovery of a remote-controlled explosive device on the railway tracks at Rangagaon in Assam’s Kokrajhar district yesterday has prompted security agencies to step up vigil and run a light engine for inspection of the route.

The powerful bomb, suspected to be planted by the National Democratic Front of Boroland, was detected yesterday at 5.40 am by an army patrol. Train services between Assam and the rest of the country was suspended for over seven hours.

B.K. Rami Shetty, the Kokrajhar police superintendent, said over phone that nothing would be left to chance and better coordination between the security agencies had been called for.

“We held an emergency meeting today and discussed several measures. They cannot be disclosed,” he said.

“Though militants are not very active in the densely-populated Rangagaon, we are not relaxing our vigil after yesterday’s discovery,” the police superintendent said.
