Kalimpong, Jan. 25: People of this hill subdivision will no longer have to rush to the plains for urosurgery, laproscopy or laser eye operation. Adarsha Nursing Home here is providing scope for all three, the facilities for which were so long unavailable to the residents of the three hill subdivisions.

The nursing home that opened on November 30 has started conducting urosurgery since December and will now go for laproscopic and laser eye operations.

“Local people here will benefit the most. Previously, people from the hill subdivisions had to go to Siliguri for such operations,” said G. Lepcha, proprietor of Adarsha Nursing Home. “Now they can avail of the facilities here. This will not only save the patient the unnecessary harassment of travel but will also cut down on extra expenditure.”

According to the proprietor, a visit to the plains for the sake of the operations only leads to unwanted expenses like food and lodging for those accompanying the patients. Besides, the heat in the plains is also a factor that works against the patient.

The three types of surgeries, however, will be held only once every 30 days because of which not many patients can be accomodated. “We are bringing surgeons from outside Kalimpong. They will come here twice a month. During their first visit, they will screen the patients and in the second visit, conduct the surgery,” Lepcha said.

Surgeons from Siliguri are already performing urosurgery at the nursing home while a team of doctors from Kothari Medical Centre, Calcutta, will perform laproscopy. An expert team from Alokon, Calcutta, will conduct the laser eye surgeries. Rates of the operations would be on a par with Siliguri nursing homes, Lepcha said.
