Students of Sri Aurobindo Institute of Education in CL Block celebrated the 137th birth anniversary of The Mother through music, meditation and launch of their official newsletter.
Students had put up charts depicting the life of The Mother, who was born Blanche Rachel Mirra Alfassa. They highlighted milestones in her life such as her first visit to India and her meeting with Aurobindo.
Besides speeches and slokas, peaceful music was played and a meditation session took place for all. The first edition of the school’s newsletter — Ascension — was also launched by founder-member Mihir Kanti Basu. It had reports of the co-curricular activities that took place in the school over the past year.
The significance of the day was explained by a teacher Kakoli Roy, and then a dance recital was performed by students of Class IX. “My exams start in a week, but I still came to school to attend this programme,” smiled Debadrita Bhowmick of Class X.
Vice-principal Nandita Chandra read extracts from The Supreme Discovery written by The Mother and principal Debleena Bhattacharya delivered the vote of thanks.
“We are happy with the way our entire school came together for this event and we look forward to this auspicious day throughout the year,” smiled secretary of the school Sankar Banerjee.
