Arunava Ghosh On Sujit Bose
♦ Has he ever participated in a debate during his tenure as MLA? But ask him how many ceiling fans there are in the assembly hall, he will tell you.
♦ A roll shop to Rs 100 crore...apparently it started as a dosa idli shop, or so the people of Lake Town tell me. Can my rival say what his profession is? Go check the houses of the Birlas, you will not find a capsule lift. You will find one in my rival’s house.
♦ The chief minister says Calcutta has not seen as much development in 400 years as it has in the last four and half. A research should be conducted on her brain. Calcutta did not exist 400 years back.
♦ It has been said that had Bidhan Chandra Roy lived in today’s age, he would have worked for Trinamul Congress. Imagine the scene: Mamata Banerjee heading a rally and Dr Ray following in her footsteps shouting “Mamata tumi egiye chalo, amra tomar songe achhi.”
♦ Partha (Chatterjee) became a doctorate in six months. Je rajye shiksha montri tukchhe, chhatrora toh tukbei (In a state where the education minister cheats students would of course be cheating)!
♦ A Corporation got formed but you did not get the chance to cast your vote. Bhootey vote diye gyalo (Ghosts came and voted).
♦ Pesident, pogramme, poject....if you want the ‘r’ back in these words, vote judiciously.
♦ Music, poetry, art is possible through inspiration. Never heard of bus stops being the result of inspiration. But look at the bus stops and you will find huge pictures of Mamata Banerjee over the MLA’s that claim to be so.
♦ Every year, we publish the names of our deceased neighbours in our block Puja souvenir. Last year, they all rose from the dead and voted in the civic polls.
— Manimoy Saha, president of AE Block Samajkalyan Sangha
Babul Supriyo (BJP)
♦ Apnara sobai janen Mamata Banerjee is equal to Khomota Banerjee (All of you are aware that Mamata is equal to power). It is a hit joke on Facebook these days.
♦ Ekhankar ekhonkar netara sob hoy jail-ey noy bail- ey. (The ministers are all in jail or out on bail).
♦ “Netader teen haat — daan haat, bna haat ar ojuhaat (Political leaders have three hands. Left hand, right hand and excuses).”
Sujit Bose (Trinamul Congress)
♦ The gongs of our Big Ben replica are sounding in the hearts of CPM.
♦ Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has said Calcutta has changed.
♦ If a couple of mistakes have been made, no one remembers the blemishes on the moon. They remember only its brightness.
— Devashis Jana, mayor-in-council member, Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation
♦ Look at the Times Square zone on the approach to the airport. His (Arunava Ghosh’s) junior has filed a case with the Green Tribunal against the beautification. So you want the area back as a dingy alley?
He (Ghosh) is irresponsible. For four years, he was a Trinamul MLA. He left the post before the end of his term. He quit his post prematurely in the Bar Council too.
♦ In 1996, he stood against CPM in Dum Dum. He was chased out of the area by CPM goons. Now he is campaigning shoulder to shoulder with them. Let him come again. Our boys will serve him tea and garland him.
—Tinku Varma, councillor, South Dum Dum Municipality
Sujit Bose’s star campaigner on Sunday was Abhishek Banerjee. The MP and nephew of chief minister Mamata Banerjee addressed the crowd at a meeting at Karunamoyee and unleashed a slew of quotes that drew whistles and applause from the audience.
The crowd comprised residents of areas like Duttabad, Sukantanagar, Mahisbathan, Baguiati, Sreebhumi and south Dum Dum who had been ferried in in 15 buses. But very few Salt Lake residents were seen at the meeting.
Here is a selection of quotes from Abhishek’s election arsenal —
On the Opposition
♦ If CPM leaders cannot see our development work, then after returning to power we shall build a hospital to carry out cataract operations for them.
♦ CPM-er shonir dosha cholchhe (CPM is passiing through a star-crossed phase).
♦ Rajiv Gandhi-r suputrora ajke hath chinher tiranga jhanda ta Chaitra sale er moton CPM-er harmad der kachhe inquilab zindabad bole bikri kore diyechhe (Descendants of Rajiv Gandhi have sold off the party flag on Chaitra sale to the goons of CPM)
♦ For 34 years, the only industry CPM ran was kouto bajiye taka tola (door-to- door collection of donations)
♦ Kaaste-r sathey mile gyachhe aaj kobji kata hath/Adhir Ranjan Choudhury aar Arunava Ghosh-rao khachchhe Sainbari-r roktomakha bhaat
♦ Hathey bomb, mukhe prem/ Manush mere manush prem/ Janowar CPM (Bombs in hand, love on lips/ Killers then, now humanity lovers/ Animals all, CPM)
♦ Surya (Kanta Mishra) and Biman (Bose) both stay in ivory towers. Neither will come down to earth and work for you.
On Arunava Ghosh
♦ You will find Sujit Bose at your service at 2am, 3am, 4am, 10am but you won’t get Arunava Ghosh after 6pm for two reasons. The first is because he would be busy appearing on TV and the second reason I don’t need to spell it out. A hint is enough.
♦ For Arunava Ghosh, the high court and the Supreme Court are both the TV.
♦ Let Arunava Ghosh continue to entertain us on TV, cast your votes for Sujit Bose.
♦ You cannot beat a cat and turn it into a tiger.
