Jalpaiguri: The West Bengal Board for Secondary Education on Thursday said it would suspend Haridayal Roy, the headmaster of Mainaguri Subhash Nagar High School for allegedly flouting guidelines during the Madhyamik examination in March.

Kalyanmoy Ganguly, the president of the board, said it had conducted a probe and found Roy guilty of violating the rules.

"We are suspending the headmaster and disciplinary proceedings will start against him. Four others have been found to have violated the rules and norms and steps would be taken against them as well," said Ganguly.

While the Madhyamik exams were in progress, Biswajit Roy, a teacher of the school, alleged that Haridayal was opening question papers ahead of the stipulated time. He had also alleged that the headmaster was passing on the questions beforehand to some students appearing for exams.

It was also alleged that Haridayal had forced some teachers to solve the questions and would narrate the answers to some students so that the come up with good results.

As the issue came to light, Biswanath Bhowmik, the assistant sub-inspector of schools in Mainaguri, filed a complaint with the board on March 20. On March 25, the board barred the headmaster's entry into the exam centre and later, he was relieved of all responsibilities related to the examination.

"A thorough probe was conducted and it has been found that he had opened packets of question papers ahead of time. So far, however, there is no such revelation that somebody has benefited from the act. The inquiry is still going on," Ganguly added.

Among others, Biswajit, the teacher who made the issue public and Mantu Roy, the additional venue supervisor posted at the school during the exams, will face disciplinary proceedings.

"This is because Biswajit Roy had done video recording at the strong room, where the questions papers are kept. Mantu Roy, on the other hand, did not deliver his duty in an appropriate manner," said a source.

Also, Samrat Biswas, another teacher of the school, will be served a stricture. #"He has made contradictory statements during the inquiry," the source added.

The headmaster said. "I had opened the English and maths question papers for convenience and not with any other intention. I have not leaked any question to any student or teacher."
