The students of the oldest IIT in the country have lined up 53 events to celebrate the 53rd edition of Spring Fest in association with The Telegraph.

The IIT Kharagpur fest, with playing cards as theme, will start with a performance by the college musical society on January 20. Day One of the four-day jamboree will end with a rib-tickling Hasya Kavi Sammelan.

Day Two will begin with the prelims of Wildfire, the popular competition for rock bands. Some of the other prominent events lined up include the street play competition Nukkad, which went national this year with prelims in three cities across the country; Rangmanch, the inter-college drama competition and Centrifuge, the group dance competition.

“One of the biggest events is the jam music competition, Lake Side Dreams,” said Archit Lahoti, one of the organisers.

Quizzers can compete for the coveted Mary Bucknell Trophy and in Olympiq, the sports quiz, Cinefix, the entertainment quiz and Krossfire, the crossword quiz. Those who think they know their Sholay can sign up for the Kitne Admi The quiz.

The fun competitions include Panache, the fashion designing competition, and Face Canvas, in which students paint faces instead of canvases.

“We are expecting participants from more than 350 colleges across the country. The footfall is expected to be 40,000 over the four days,” said Archit.

The main attractions will be the Star Nights. Contemporary fusion band Mrigya will have students grooving to their beats on Saturday and Parikrama will have them headbanging on Sunday. The fest will close with a Vishal-Sekhar show on January 23.
