Calcutta, May 22: The Trinamul MLA from Nandigram, Firoza Bibi, today inadvertently conceded on the floor of the House that the victims of the 2007 police firing on land protesters were yet to get justice.
"From 2007 to now, we have not got justice for Nandigram. Many people have said many things but nothing has happened," Firoza said.
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee was not in the House when the MLA made the comment during her speech.
Mamata had persuaded the homemaker and mother of Sheikh Imdadul, one of the victims of the March 14, 2007, firing that left 14 dead, to join electoral politics.
"The government went, change happened and it was said those responsible for these incidents would not be spared. They will be tried and justice will be delivered. But where is justice?" Firoza asked.
As soon as Firoza made the comments today, Left legislators asked her to explain what she meant.
Later, outside the Assembly, Firoza admitted she had made a "mistake".
