Employees want 'unfit' certificate

Government employees chosen for election duties are obtaining medical certificates declaring them "unfit" from the Jalpaiguri district hospital so that they can stay away from the election duty.

Jalpaiguri, April 4: Government employees chosen for election duties are obtaining medical certificates declaring them "unfit" from the Jalpaiguri district hospital so that they can stay away from the election duty.

"Over 100 such government employees have appeared at the district hospital for physical examination till yesterday. While many of them had shown documents of operations, heart ailments, renal problems and other genuine health problems, there were some who desperately wanted "unfit" certificate from the medical board," Gayaram Naskar, the superintendent of Jalpaiguri district hospital, said.

"It was amusing to see people narrating health hazards like suspected cataracts, abdomen and muscle pain, muscle sprains and headache. They however, could not furnish any document in support of their claims, " Naskar added.

Amlanjyoti Saha, the additional district magistrate of Jalpaiguri said, employees having genuine health issue would be waived from the election duty but those trying to escape mentioning fake health problems would not be spared.
