Balurghat, March 28: The Election Commission?s order against political posters and graffiti is being flouted right under the nose of the district administration here.
The commission had ordered the removal of posters and erasure of graffiti from public view by March 25 and the onus was on the district administration to carry out the task.
However, in Balurghat town, the most prominent graffiti are on the boundary wall of the office of the district magistrate-cum-returning officer Sarfaraz Ahmed. The names of jail minister and RSP candidate from Balurghat Assembly constituency Biswanath Chowdhury and RSP leader Kshiti Goswami can also be seen on posters put up near the entrance to the office. Posters featuring the names of Trinamul leader Mamata Banerjee and former chief minister Jyoti Basu are also on display.
When asked yesterday why the posters have not been removed yet, Ahmed claimed that he had not noticed them. He promised that he would remove the posters and erase the names of the political leaders within 24 hours.
However, when The Telegraph visited the office today, the graffiti and posters were found exactly as they were yesterday.
