Diversions spell longer commute

Lakhs of people who head out to the city from New Alipore, Taratala, Behala, Thakurpukur and Joka will have to take a detour of several kilometres to reach the heart of Calcutta. Durgapur Bridge, New Alipore and Alipore Road will be open for buses from Wednesday. The other alternative route is Taratala Road, Central Garden Reach Road, Garden Reach Flyover and Karl Marx Sarani to reach Hastings crossing. Based on diversions announced by the traffic police department, Metro lists the options for commuters

New Alipore & Taratala

Detour via Taratala Road, Central Garden Reach Road, Garden Reach flyover and Karl Marx Sarani to reach Hastings crossing. Those heading to Kalighat or Tollygunge will have to take New Alipore Road and Durgapur Bridge

Behala West

Commuters will have to take either Taratala Road to get to Garden Reach flyover or James Long Sarani to reach Kalighat via Durgapur Bridge. They can reach Tollygunge via Karunamoyee or Tollygunge Circular Road

Behala East

A 25km-detour via Taratala Road and Garden Reach flyover.

Commuters can also reach the heart via Kalighat or take the  Alipore Road and Raja Rammohan Roy Road to reach Tollygunge.

Thakurpukur & Joka

A journey of 18km through Mahatma Gandhi Road to reach Esplanade
