Police medal

Eight IPS officers have been nominated for the chief minister’s police medal for outstanding service this year. Director general (fire services) Sanjoy Mukherjee, joint commissioner (special task force) Vishal Garg, inspector-general (south Bengal) Ajey Ranade, deputy inspector-general of police (Presidency range) Subrata Maitra, superintendent of police (Darjeeling) Amit Javalgi, superintendent of police (Murshidabad) Mukesh, officer on special duty in chief minister’s office Shankha Shubhra Chakraborty and deputy commissioner (special branch) Dip Narayan Goswami would be awarded the medal at the August 15 parade on Red Road. Two other officers — deputy commissioner III (traffic) Verghese Kunjachan and officer-in-charge of Kalighat police station Santanu Sinha Biswas — have been nominated in a separate category.

China artistes

A group of 30 artistes from China will perform at Kala Mandir on Tuesday and in Santiniketan on Friday. “The show will include performances by several ethnic groups of Yunnan, a ‘face-changing’ act, a magic show and a Hindi film song,” said Chinese consul-general Ma Zhanwu. A show is also scheduled at St. Lawrence High School.
