Trains to start late
• HOWRAH: The Himgiri Express will leave Howrah at 8.35am on Saturday instead of 11.55pm on Friday. The UP Calcutta-Bikaner Pratap Express will leave Chitpur station at 9.05am on Saturday instead of 10.45pm on Friday.
Pandal fire
• PARNASREE: A fire broke out at a Kali puja pandal on Motilal Road in Parnasree on Thursday night. The fire had started at 10pm when a firecracker fell on the Sabuj Sangha Community pandal. A fire tender doused the flames within minutes.
Father dead
• Calcutta: Father Christian Mignon, 93, of St. Xavier's, Calcutta, passed away on Friday morning. He was known for translating the Bible, with annotation, into Bengali, along with poet Sajal Bandyapadhyay. He had presented a copy of the book, Mangal Varta, to Pope John Paul II during the papal visit to Calcutta in 1986. He also translated Vani Bitan, a book on Christian liturgy, and Ek Mutha Bij, a book on Christian values based on day-to-day experiences. Born in Belgium in 1924, he joined the Jesuit noviciate in 1942.
