Five persons were arrested from Nabapally here on Sunday for allegedly beating up a young homemaker when she had asked them not to gather on the road in violation of the lockdown.

The youths allegedly grabbed the woman by the hair and beat her up. Father of one of the youths was also accused of slapping her.

The homemaker lodged a complaint and police arrested the five on charges of assaulting the woman, outraging her modesty and disobeying government order.

The woman said she had been returning home and the youths were standing in such a manner that it was difficult for others to walk past them. “When I asked them to move away, they hurled abuses at me. When I protested, they attacked me. One of the youths grabbed me by my hair and others rained blows on me,” she said.
