Calcutta: Calcutta police have requested the home ministry to arrange for the CCTV footage of the hotel in Dubai where cricketer Mohammad Shami had stayed en route to India from South Africa earlier this year.

Allegations have emerged that Shami had met a Pakistani woman in the hotel and accepted money from her on behalf of a man called Mohammad Bhai, who is known for organising parties and giving gifts to Indian cricketers.

Last week, the Board of Control for Cricket in India had cleared Shami of all allegations of match-fixing levelled against him. Following the clean chit by the governing body of Indian cricket, Shami has been included in the list of players entitled to the Grade B annual retainer contract.

Police said they would have to probe the allegations of cheating levelled against Shami by wife Hasin Jahan.

Hasin, who has also accused her husband and his family of rape, attempt to murder, mental and physical torture, poisoning and common intention, had mentioned about the Pakistani woman in her complaint.

Investigators hope they will be able to ascertain the veracity of the allegation if they get hold of the CCTV footage of the Dubai hotel.

Sources said the application, once cleared by the Centre, will be forwarded to the Dubai administration through the Indian embassy there.

As part of the probe, a team of Calcutta police has questioned 12 people, including family members of Shami, at his ancestral place in Uttar Pradesh.

Hasin's wish

People close to Hasin said she had expressed her wish to meet Shami after he met with a road accident in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Shami suffered head injuries.
