(From left) Councillor Ward 15, Sudhir Saha, MLA Sujit Bose, EE Block Resident’s Association president Biswajit Maity and former chairman of Bidhannagar Municipality Biswajiban Majumdar at the inauguration of EE Block’s community centre on Sunday.

After a wait of nearly 15 years, the block got its community hall at EE 132, behind Matri Sadan. “People started moving into this block in 1998 but unlike other blocks we had no community centre and this made it difficult for us to organise any cultural event,” said Mukhtar Ali Khan, former secretary of the residents’ association. In 2001, the block had formally applied to the authorities for land to build the hall and after a long wait it was allotted a portion of EE 132 that was supposed to house EE Market.

The new community hall has two storeys and will also have a library and a medical centre. Bose has sanctioned Rs 10 lakh for the building of which Rs 5 lakh has already been disbursed. (Saradindu Chaudhury and Snehal Sengupta)
