Feb. 17: The officer-in-charge (OC) and additional officer-in-charge of Alipore police station have been transferred to the security control office at Lalbazar two days after CMRI hospital was vandalised under their watch.
Debasish Roy, the OC, and Sourav Bhattacharya, the additional OC, were present at the Diamond Harbour Road hospital with other cops when a second wave of attack was launched around 10.30am on Wednesday.
"The duo have been transferred for failing to prevent the mayhem despite being present at the hospital," a senior officer said. Metro tried to contact the two officers but neither answered the call.
Roy will be replaced by the additional OC of Shakespeare Sarani police station, Sandip Ganguly, and Bhattacharya by the additional OC of Maidan police station, Satyabrta Dasgupta. These were part of 16 transfers of officers of the inspector rank of the city police.
Three of the alleged attackers were arrested on Thursday. But today the cops failed to round up any of the other accused, including the two named in the FIR by the hospital authorities - Mohammed Shakil and Wahab Ali.
Around 150 youths were involved in the attack on the Ekbalpore hospital.
"Most of the accused have left their locality. We are looking for them," a senior officer of Ekbalpore police station said when asked whether the police drive against the accused had been suspended.
