The CID on Friday took over the probe into Rajib Das’s murder from Barasat police.
Officers from the CID’s homicide wing came to Barasat police station and took Chandan Roy, the prime accused arrested on Thursday, in their custody.
“We have taken charge of the investigation and spoke to Rajib’s sister Rinku. We will interrogate Chandan (at the CID headquarters in Bhabani Bhavan) in the evening,” said Anuj Sharma, the special inspector general of police (CID).
CID sources said the Barasat police had delayed the transfer of the probe by three days.
An officer of the North 24-Parganas police attributed the delay to ego tussle between district sleuths and the CID.
“We have arrested the main accused. Tracking down the other two is just a matter of time. The CID will round them up and take the credit which should be actually ours,” said a senior officer of the district police.
The Barasat police have claimed that Roy, who has been in and out of jail for theft, had confessed to his involvement in murder of Rajib.
Rinku, who has been shown Chandan’s photograph, could not identify him as one of the accused. “I can’t say whether he (Chandan) was among the three assailants. They did not bring him in front of me,” Rinku told Metro.
