Siliguri, June 26: The much-awaited Mahabirstan rail over bridge (ROB) — built to end traffic congestion at the main railway crossing here — will be inaugurated by chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on June 30.

“The ROB will put an end to the problems faced by thousands of residents and tourists at the crossing every day,” Bikash Ghosh, the mayor of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, told reporters today.

He said Rs 18.16 crore had been spent on the project. The state government and the railways shared the cost following an agreement. The construction work had started on December 16, 2004.

“The construction of one of the arms connecting Station Feeder Road is in progress and we hope to complete it in another three months,” Ghosh said. Approach roads on the other side of the flyover would be widened soon but no eviction would take place for this, he added.
