3 killed in road mishap

Darjeeling, Nov. 26: Three persons were killed and six injured when a vehicle fell off the road and plunged around 100 ft at Kharekhola along National Highway 55. The accident occurred near Kurseong last night.

According to police, the dead include Sanjay Sah (27) and Bindiya Thakuri (28), both residents of Sixth Mile. The driver of the jeep (WB-76/0096), Nakul Tamang of Third Mile, was also killed. Among the six who had been admitted to the hospital, two were discharged after being administered first aid. Pona Subba (20), Sunita Bhutia (25), Sachin Sah (20) and Anil Sah (28), residents of Sixth Mile, however, have been admitted to Kurseong Subdivisional Hospital. The vehicle was coming from Siliguri and was heading towards Takhdah when the accident occurred.


Collision

Jalpaiguri: Two persons sustained injuries on Wednesday morning when their scooter collided with a truck near Songachi Tea Estate under the Matialli police station. The injured were sent to the Malbazar rural hospital.


Tusker kills one

Siliguri: A tea garden labourer was trampled to death by a tusker near Targhera forest in Malbazar on Tuesday night. Police said Tamfa Kujur might have entered the forest around evening and was spotted by the pachyderm. Kujur failed to escape as the elephant gave chase. His body has been sent for postmortem.


Rally

Siliguri: Members of Bhani Jyoti Sangh took out a motorcycle rally from Methibari near Sukna on Tuesday to spread awareness about the adverse effects of using banned narcotic substances. Members carried handwritten placards and anti-drug posters. Around 100 people took part in the rally which ended in Siliguri.


Demand

Siliguri: People living around Dabgram industrial estate area have raised the demand for improved road conditions. Local residents feel that road conditions here are pathetic during the monsoon. Although located on the outskirts of Siliguri, local civic authorities have turned a blind eye to the problem, local residents complained.
