Nandi driver Road deaths Nanoor bomb Trader killed CPM jail

Tamluk, Nov. 23: Shaktipada Dalapati, the ambulance driver who had allegedly ferried the bodies of six persons killed during the CPM’s armed recapture of Nandigram on November 10, 2007, was today charged with murder by the CID.

Dalapati, who was arrested last week, had allegedly ferried the bodies from a Khejuri hospital to the banks of the Rasulpur river.

Road deaths

Chinsurah: A college girl and a middle-aged grocer were run over and killed by a truck that lost control on a state highway in Hoogly’s Kalitala on Wednesday night. While Priyanka Ghosh, 20, was walking home from a shop, Kishore Sadhukhan, 42, was sitting on a bench outside his shop. The truck driver fled.

Nanoor bomb

Bolpur: Nearly 700 crude bombs were found in trouble-torn Nanoor in Birbhum on Wednesday. The bombs were found in two iron drums hidden in a bush. Around 700 bombs had been found in the area on November 15. Nanoor has witnessed frequent political clashes since the murder of 11 Trinamul supporters by alleged CPM cadres in 2000.

Trader killed

Chinsurah: Santo Saha, a 42-year-old timber merchant, was shot dead early on Wednesday in Hooghly’s Hind Motors. Police said Saha, who was out on morning walk, had criminal records.

CPM jail

Tamluk: Seven CPM workers were on Wednesday sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment by a Haldia court on the charge of beating up a woman in 2002 for refusing to take part in a party procession.
