Calcutta, June 18: Eminent scientist Amal Roy Chowdhury died today following a cardiac arrest. He was 82 and is survived by two sons and two daughters.
Roy Chowdhury suffered the cardiac arrest at the State Bank’s Gariahat branch, said son-in-law Subrata Sen. The physicist was rushed to a Ballygunge nursing home where he was declared dead. He was cremated at Keoratola. A paper Roy Chowdhury prepared while a physics lecturer at Asutosh College was later recognised as a milestone in relativity and cosmology.
Siliguri: Narayan Pal, 15, was crushed under the debris of a boundary wall that collapsed on Friday night on the Eastern Bypass at Kaankatamore. Pal’s mother and neighbours were injured and admitted to the Siliguri subdivisional hospital.
