Calcutta, Dec. 14: The Left Front today asked the Mamata Banerjee government to take over the medical college in Haldia that was being run by an NGO associated with CPM leader Lakshman Seth before its license was cancelled.
Opposition leader Surjya Kanta Mishra said in the Assembly that if the state did not have enough funds, the college could also be taken over by the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation of the Centre.
Calcutta: Mamata Banerjee has said police stations in Bengal are “ill-equipped”. The chief minister said police batons were made of bamboo and did not hurt.
Chinsura: Former BJP state president Tathagata Roy was sent to 14 days’ jail custody on Wednesday in connection with a case of attempt to murder. Roy, who had taken an anticipatory bail from Calcutta High Court on November 3, had been asked to appear before a Chinsura court within a month. The Chinsura court gave the order after he failed to do so. He will apply for bail again on Thursday.
