Islampur, July 7: Two suicides were reported from Chopra and Islampur police stations in the past 24 hours.
In once case, Md Pabaruddin, 20, committed suicide by consuming poison at his residence in Madhuvita in the Chopra police station area last night. In the other case, Narayan Das, a 25-year-old youth, killed himself by taking poison at Srikrishnapur under Islampur police station.
Siliguri: Illegal teak timber worth Rs 70,000 was recovered from an abandoned house at Ghoogomali on the outskirts of Siliguri on Tuesday by the mobile patrol of the Baikunthapur forest division.
Siliguri: Members of the Chhatra Parishad confined the employees of West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd to their Pradhannagar office on Tuesday to protest against frequent power cuts. The agitation was withdrawn after issuing an ultimatum to the employees to regularise power supply within 48 hours or else face a fresh movement.
Siliguri: Four members of the Nature and Trekkers’ Club, Jalpaiguri, scaled Mt Stok Kangri, located at a height of 6,153 metres in the Ladakh Himalayas, on Monday. Bhaskar Das, the leader of the 13-member team, said over the phone from Leh that nine of them had started for the summit but only four could make it.
Islampur: Chopra police recovered the body of an unidentified man, who looked about 50-year-old, from Kalagach on Tuesday. As there were injury marks on the body, a murder case was registered.
