3 rebels join fast

Alipurduar, Oct. 4: Three KLO Militants went on a 48-hour hunger strike in Alipurduar Special Correctional Home this morning in demand of justice. Amrit Das, Binoy Das and Sagen Roy thus joined 48 other rebels (including one belonging to the Ulfa) who have gone on hunger strike at various points in the recent past demanding speedy trials.

Three of the original 48 strikers have withdrawn their protest in the past couple of days.


Robbed

Alipurduar: Sagnik Chatterjee and his family were robbed of their cellphones, ornaments and money by an armed gang near 25th Mile on the way to Buxa in Alipurduar on Wednesday. The victims are tourists from Calcutta.


Idol clash

Raiganj: Twelve people, including two constables, were injured in a clash between two puja committees over who should immerse the Durga idols first at the Daspara ghat on the banks of a stream in the Chopra police station area on Wednesday. North Dinajpur superintendent of police Pradip Sanyal reached the spot and RAF was deployed to control the mob. Sixty-eight people have been arrested.
