Raiganj, Feb. 2: An undertrial in the Islampur sub-jail was beaten up by a drunk constable for refusing to pay Rs 500 for the release of his bail order, which arrived at the correctional home this evening.
Binoy Barui, arrested on charges of stealing, was finally rescued from the hands of the constable, Rajib Singh, through the initiative of Islampur subdivisional officer Jagadish Prasad Meena. Barui has been admitted to Islampur subdivisional hospital.
North Dinajpur district magistrate Pradip Kumar Sengupta said an inquiry into the matter is underway.
Siliguri: Indian (formerly Indian Airlines) has started Spot Fare from January 26 for flights departing from Bagdogra to Delhi, Calcutta and Guwahati. Subject to availability of tickets, passengers from now on can book them at any time during the last six hours before scheduled departure at lower than usual rates. The spot fares will be Rs 5,255 for Delhi, Rs 3,055 for Calcutta and Rs 2,555 for Guwahati.
