Biker, schoolboy die in two accidents

Two boys have died in different accidents in Cooch Behar district in past 24 hours.

The other two boys with him on the bike are at the super-specialty hospital in Jalpaiguri where their condition is critical. Subrata was pronounced brought dead at the local health centre.

In another incident, Chayan Roy, a teenage school student, died in an accident on NH 31 at Harimandir area of Cooch Behar town on Thursday morning.

Sources said Chayan and his friend Apurba Sarkar were travelling in an e-rickshaw from Khapaidanga to Chakchaka.

While the vehicle was crossing Harimandir, a truck came from the opposite end of the road. The boys inside the e-rickshaw panicked and jumped out of the vehicle.

The speeding truck mowed them down. The e-rickshaw, however, evaded the collision.

As the news spread, a team from Pundibari police station reached the spot and recovered the body of Chayan.

His friend Apurba is under treatment at the MJN Medical College & Hospital where he is reportedly critical.
