Calcutta, May 10: Some members of the CPM’s North 24-Parganas unit today requested the party leadership at Alimuddin Street to retain “disgruntled’’ leader Amitava Nandi in the district secretariat despite his “unwillingness’’, sources said.

“Nandi doesn’t want to continue in the North 24-Parganas party secretariat because he is unhappy with the leadership’s move to sideline him by dropping him from the state committee. District leaders urged the top bosses at Alimuddin to persuade Nandi against quitting the district secretariat,’’ a CPM leader added.

The sources said North 24-Parganas CPM secretary Gautam Deb, with whom Nandi had frosty ties earlier, had urged the district leaders to make the request to the leadership.
