An Alipurduar resident who suspects he travelled to Bhutan in the same flight with a US national who has tested positive for the coronavirus got himself admitted to a hospital on Saturday after he displayed some symptoms.

Doctors at the government super-speciality hospital in Falakata said the man had been kept in isolation and his blood sample sent to the National Institute of Virology in Pune for confirmatory tests.

“He suspects that the 76-year-old US national who is under treatment in Bhutan was his co-passenger. After reaching home, this man developed certain symptoms (of coronavirus infection) and came to the hospital in Falakata, where he was later admitted. He is under observation.

“There is nothing to worry as of now as the test results are awaited and all precautions have been taken,” said a source in the health department.
