Raiganj, Sept. 29: Police have registered a case against chief manager of the State Bank of India's Raiganj branch for allegedly sealing a printing facility with the help of fake policemen for a loan default and threatening to kill the proprietor.

Dibyendu Majumdar had taken a business loan of Rs 9 lakh from the SBI branch here in 2009 for buying a printing machine for his facility at Netajipally in Raiganj. He was repaying the loan in instalments in the initial years. "Later, I faced a financial crisis and appealed to the bank for a settlement. But the bank didn't heed my plea," said Majumdar.

According to the businessman, he approached the Lok Adalat which instructed the bank to go for a settlement. "But the bank did not follow even that order," he said.

On April 10 this year, two bank employees, along with four-five men in police uniforms, arrived to seize and seal the shop. "As I contacted the chief manager and appealed for a settlement again, he threatened that he would get me arrested and kill me. Those who had come sealed my shop and left," said Majumdar.

Majumdar, in consultation with his lawyer Monotosh Sarkar, wrote to the district magistrate and district superintendent of police of North Dinajpur. "Through their replies, it was found the bank didn't follow rules and the policemen who sealed the shop were not genuine," said Majumdar.
