
The annual programme and senior school prize distribution ceremony of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan was held on December 16 on the school premises.
Amitava Roy, director, Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre, Department of Atomic Energy, government of India was the chief guest at the function. “It is an honour to be with young learners. The youth is the future of the country and education the only weapon that will stay lifelong with the child. I’m glad to be here,” he said.
The other guests included retired IPS and the school's executive vice-chairman, Prasun Mukherjee, director, G.V. Subramanian and principal Rekha Vaisya.

The overall highest aggregate in Class XII Board exams 2016 went to three students — Anirban Deb (98.2 per cent in science), Medhasree Pal (94.6 per cent in commerce) and Sruti Mitra (95 per cent in humanities). Rajdeep Sarkar, a Class X student, got the Golden Boy 2016 award. The 15-year-old has won the Commonwealth under-18 Chess Champion in Sri Lanka this August. Back in town after qualifying for the Chess Olympiad, the Asian Youth Chess Championship and the World Youth Chess Championship next year by dint of his third-place finish at the National Under-15 Chess Championship in Delhi, Rajdeep admitted feeling happy at the recognition from school. “I had got the all-rounder award in Class VIII, but this is even better,” said the reticent boy who lives in Dum Dum.

The C. Subramaniam Award for Excellence in character, which included a medal and certificate of Rs 250, went to three students—Olivia Biswas of Class VIII, Muskaan Gupta of Class X and Pranshu Bagrodia of Class XII. “I am grateful to the school authorities for selecting me for this award. My parents are also very happy,” said Muskaan.
Next up was a dance performance by the students. They put up Goudiya nritya from Nadia, Rabindrik nritya from Santiniketan etc.
“This is an important day in the school calendar. Their efforts are rewarded on this day,” said Vaisya, the principal.
