Arunava Ghosh fielded questions from around 40 youths at an AG Block house recently. The Congress candidate, backed by the Left, was asked about their political alliance, about ending syndicates and nurturing an environment to foster businesses.
“What would be the future of start-ups in this city if you come to power?" asked Vineet Patawari, an IIM alumnus who has founded a start-up. To this Ghosh assured support. “Politicians of all colours have made stupid decisions when it came to policy making for businesses. I believe in free enterprise and will work towards it.”
Ghosh was asked about syndicates and he assured he would end them and Mohit Mal, a CF Block resident who works in an IT company, asked about the Congress-Left alliance. “The Congress and Left Front are divided over the Goods and Service Tax (GST) bill and FDI in retail. You have joined hands now but how will you solve out these difference,” he asked. The candidate said he believed in an open market system with some checks to ensure fair practises.
Another youth, Arka Pal, asked the question that has been hounding all residents since the violent corporation elections last year: “What will you do if goons once again overrun Salt Lake on April 25?” To this Ghosh said he had personally requested the police commissioner not to let it happen again. “Moreover this time, the polling will be held under the eyes of the central forces. Also, I would request everyone to go out in large groups and vote. The outsiders don’t know the lanes and bylanes of Salt Lake and if residents unite and chase them, they will have a tough time escaping,” Ghosh told the gathering.
