From the Vedic age to the 21st century, women have been victimised time and again. This was the theme of a short yet powerful dance drama, Narishakti, put up by the students of Delhi Public School, Ruby Park, on their annual day at Science City auditorium on April 27.

The evening started on a musical note with two students, Ritesh Nag of Class X and Debangshu Sen of Class XII, playing the sitar and santoor.

Around 590 students put up a cultural programme to enter tain the guests, including IAS officer Vivek Bharadwaj, dancer Tanusree Shankar and actor Hiraan.

Narishakti, a much appreciated effort by the students, took the audience through Sita’s ordeal as well as that of modern women.

The audience was also given a glimpse into the world of Arabian Nights through an entertaining musical, Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves. The musical started with a storyteller narrating to a group of children the story of Ali Baba. The catchy music added zing to the students’ performance.

The school’s annual report highlighting its achievements in the past year, was presented by principal Anusree Ghosh on the occasion. She also focussed on the school’s athletic achievements. “In 2011-12, DPS-Ruby Park has touched new heights. Some of our students have done us proud in the National Olympiad,” Ghosh said.

A prize distribution ceremony that followed saw 350 students getting awards for academic performance.
