Have you changed address recently? Is your name spelt wrongly on your Aadhaar card? Do you need to change your surname? For any kind of change to be effected in the Unique Identification Authority of India database, henceforth all you need to do is walk over to the CC Block post office with adequate proof.

Last Friday, an Aadhaar updation centre was unveiled at the post office. “The government has decided that post offices will be the main centres for enrolment and updation of Aadhaar cards. With the inclusion of CC Block today, we are offering this facility at 23 post offices in the West Bengal circle,” said Arundhaty Ghosh, chief post master general, West Bengal circle. The General Post Office in Dalhousie Square, Park Street, Alipore, Tollygunge, Burrabazar, Cossipore and Beleghata are among the post offices already doing updation.

The facility is being offered only at post offices which have adequate space. “After Salt Lake, our next target is New Town, possibly at the month-end,” she added. No decision has been taken on which post office in New Town will be chosen.

Every time one or more changes are being made, a token fee of Rs 25 is being charged. Presence of the person whose details has to be changed is mandatory as the account is accessed by scanning his or her finger print. The counter will be open from 9am to 2pm on weekdays and till 12noon on Saturdays. There is no geographical restriction. “Anyone from even outside Salt Lake can avail of the facility.”

Ghosh said the authorities were in the process of buying the equipment for starting enrolment. “Our staff are also being trained. Once they are ready along with the Aadhaar kit, we will start enrolment too.”
