Calcutta, Feb. 20: Three people were arrested today from the Ripon Street area in connection with the firing near Loreto St. Mary's Girls' High School, adjoining Loreto Convent, in Entally on Monday.

The shooting that took place around 9.15am, 15 minutes before classes were to begin in the school's primary section, had left a youth, Mohammad Nazir, with a gunshot wound.

Police claimed Nazir alias Badshah Kalo was a victim of gang rivalry.

Two of the arrested - Mohammad Mustakin, 30, alias Bablu and Mohammad Ilyas, 42, alias Ilu - live in Sealdah's Convent Lane where Nazir also lives.

The other arrested, Ayub Khan, 25, lives on Suresh Sarkar Road in Entally.

Apart from the three, there were two other youths involved in the shooting, the police said.

Doctors at NRS Medical College and Hospital operated on Nazir yesterday to take the bullet out of his left thigh.
