Alipore: At least 15 people were injured in a Trinamul factional clash in Alipore's Gopalnagar, not far from the chief minister's home, on Wednesday night, police said.

The apparent motive was establishing control over the area, the police said.

Three cars, an ambulance, a taxi and nine two-wheelers parked along Gopalnagar Road were damaged in the clash, the police said.

Fifteen people, including a college student and an app cab driver, were arrested on Thursday on charges of rioting and mischief. They have been booked under the arms act as well.

"Three of them have a criminal past and they have been kept in the custody of the anti-rowdy squad. The rest are in the central lock-up in Lalbazar," an officer said.

Some among the mob ransacked the Ward 74 office at 10 Gopalnagar Road while a few pelted Trinamul leader Pratap Saha's house at 6A Naba Roy Lane with stones and broke his grille gate.

The clash was the result of an ongoing tussle between Saha and another Trinamul leader, Biplab Mitra, over taking control of the area, the police claimed.

Saha, who came into the limelight during the attack on Alipore police station in 2014, is apparently close to urban development minister Firhad Hakim. Mitra is the president of party unit 74.

The clash started around 10.30pm and as it spread across the Chetla Haat Road area, Lalbazar had to send reinforcement. Officers of Alipore and Chetla police stations reached the area to control the situation.

Some party leaders claimed Saha's supporters had first attacked Mitra's office, prompting his men to retaliate.

The injured include supporters of Saha and Mitra. Fourteen people were discharged from SSKM Hospital after first aid.

Saheb Rajak, 30, is admitted to the hospital's emergency observation ward.
