What happens once you get introduced to an ecosystem? You stay there and buy more products from the company. Samsung has a unique opportunity to do just that with Galaxy Z Flip7, which will be accompanied by a new variant, Galaxy Z Flip7 FE.

The new Flip7 looks quite different from what we have been used to for generations, be it in the hardware or software department. Powered by a new FlexWindow, this is the thinnest Galaxy Z Flip phone yet.

A new reason to flex

The Flip7 weighs only 188 grams and measures 13.7mm when folded. On the cover is a 4.1-inch Super AMOLED 1048 x 948 display with 60/120Hz refresh rate but when opened, you get a 6.9-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen with 120Hz Adaptive refresh rate.

Now that the outer screen is larger than before, there will be fewer requirements to open the phone to go through content.

With 2,600 nits of peak brightness and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate on both the main display and the FlexWindow, Galaxy Z Flip7 allows ultra-fluid scrolling, streaming and gaming. Plus, the FlexWindow gets an upgrade with Vision Booster, enhancing outdoor visibility so users can stay connected wherever they are.

The company has not made compromises when it comes to durability. The cover and back are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. Further, the Armour FlexHinge is thinner than the hinge on the previous generation and features a restructured design and high-strength materials for smoother folds and long-lasting durability. A robust Armour Aluminium Frame provides a tough exterior for resilience.

One of the criticisms of the previous generation Flip phone has been battery life. Samsung has upped that with plenty of help from a better-tuned operating system.

Welcome DeX and more AI

That’s not all: Samsung DeX is coming to a Galaxy Z Flip7 for the first time. DeX is a mode in which you transform a Samsung phone into a movable workstation. Users can flip it open, connect to a screen and instantly get PC-like tools for enhanced multitasking.

The FlexWindow is something to keep an eye on because a lot of the AI magic will happen there. Powered by the newest One UI 8 and Android 16 right out of the box, it delivers multimodal AI experiences optimised for Flip.

Just to offer a glimpse of what you can get out of AI on the Flip, Gemini Live is now available directly on the FlexWindow. It will allow users to search for information with their voice and complete tasks — hands-free.

Users getting ready for an overseas trip can just tell Gemini what they need. It can pull up flight details from Samsung Wallet, set a reminder for when to leave for the airport and even find top-rated restaurants at the user’s destination. Plus, all this information can be stored in Samsung Notes for easy access later. It’s like having a personal assistant, right on the cover screen.

Camera magic

With camera sharing on Gemini Live, getting real-time help is as easy as pointing the camera. Whether packing for a trip or choosing an outfit, users can simply show Gemini what they are looking at. Ask questions like: “Which of these outfits is better for the weather in Seoul?” Gemini will respond, just like a helpful friend would.

The Now Bar has been a success with Galaxy S25 phones. It shows real-time app activity, podcast progress and alerts right on the cover screen, and it’s now integrated with even more third-party apps. A quick glance at the FlexWindow lets users check on the ETA of their rideshare or see what song is playing. There is also Now Brief that offers more personalised daily updates, including traffic, reminders, calendar events, and fitness summaries.

Samsung has punched above its weight on the camera front. There is a dual camera system that includes a 50MP wide and a 12MP ultra-wide lens. With Enhanced Nightography, users can capture vivid photos in low-light environments through improved lighting adjustments and the removal of noise and blurred frames.

Even selfies will come out better on the Flip7, all from the FlexWindow. Real-Time Filters lets users preview and perfect FlexCam shots instantly. And with the new Zoom Slider, users can quickly zoom in or out with just a swipe — making it perfect for capturing a full outfit or fitting everyone into the frame for a flawless group selfie.

Making it easier to access the foldable range is the new Galaxy Z Flip7 FE. It is also a compact phone but the FlexWindow looks different.
