Rebel Moon director Zack Snyder on Wednesday shared the first look of his upcoming animated series Twilight of the Gods, which will follow the adventures of a vengeful female protagonist called Sigrid.

Written and produced by Snyder, the eight-episode series is helmed by Jay Oliva, who also serves as executive producer and showrunner. Eric Carrasco, known for projects like Supergirl and Foundation, is the co-creator of the project inspired by Norse mythology and Viking tales.

“We fear no Gods! Coming to Netflix this fall, my new animated series TWILIGHT OF THE GODS,” Snyder wrote alongside a first-look image of a tattoo-sporting Sigrid on X on Wednesday.

Sigrid appears as a brunette with tattoos all over her neck, hands and face in the picture. She has green eyes. One side of her hair is braided, while the other side remains open. She holds a staff and looks intense.

Twilight of the Gods has an ensemble voice cast including Sylvia Hoeks as Sigrid, Pilou Asbæk as Thor, Stuart Martin as Leif, John Noble as Odin, Paterson Joseph as Loki and Rahul Kohli as Egill.

“There’s a king and his queen in a small Viking village, and they want to get married. An event happens to them at their wedding that causes Sigrid, who is the bride to be, who is the child of giants, to go on a crazy mission of revenge,” said Snyder, who is known for his DC films like Justice League, Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, in a recent interview.

“Sigrid enlists a cast of characters – a seer, a dwarf – and they come together to form a band that has this one mission to find a god and fight him. It’s a mission; it’s a revenge story,” he added.

Snyder and Wesley Coller’s production company’s new venture Stone Quarry Animation is the studio behind Twilight of the Gods. Paris-based Xilam Animation is also assisting Snyder’s animation team.

A sneak peek into the series will be provided at Netflix and the Annecy Film Festival’s Next on Netflix Animation event on June 12. Twilight of the Gods will premiere on Netflix US during fall this year.

Snyder’s Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver, the second film in the epic space saga franchise, came out on Netflix on April 19. The film opened with 21.4 million views, making it the most-watched title of the week on the streamer. However, it was lower than the first movie, which garnered 23.9 million views when it premiered in December 2023.
