A toast to youthfulness

The Telegraph Online Published 12.10.09, 12:00 AM
A toast to youthfulness
Youth is what Bengalis associate with sarat (autumn), which, in our country, is more akin to spring in Europe. And what better way to raise a toast to the spirit of the season, than with a burst of intellectual yet youthful brainstorming, synthesised with a unique visual experience. GenNext IV, Aakriti Art Gallery’s fourth annual art exhibition, thus offers the city art lovers an opportunity to witness works of art by young, upcoming artists and also to interact, discuss and discover the relevance and metamorphosis of art as a whole. It displays paintings, sculptures, textile and fine prints, along with photography, interactive sculptures, digital prints, installations and video installations, expanding the boundary of conventional faculties of visual arts. Also, in keeping with the tradition of being an international platform for young artists, the show features works by a number of overseas participants besides those by Indian artists. In all, 32 artists, less than 40 years of age, are participating. They include Aharon Rothschild (USA), Huma Mulji (Pakistan), Jaishri Abichandani (USA), Kondor Valeria (Hungary), Youn Mi Ock (South Korea), Ruth Avra Kleinman & Dana Lynn Kleinman (KX2) (USA), Mansoor Ali (Baroda), Prafull Singh (Mumbai), Punyo Chobin (Arunachal Pradesh; a painting by him appears here), Romicon Revola (Bangalore), Paltu Barman (Tripura) and Sukanya Ghosh (Calcutta).
