One dead, four injured in accidents

One man died and four persons were injured in four road accidents across the city on Monday.

Calcutta: One man died and four persons were injured in four road accidents across the city on Monday.

An unidentified cyclist in his mid-30s was hit by a speeding vehicle at the Rashbehari Avenue-SP Mukherjee Road crossing around 2.30am. The man was taken to MR Bangur Hospital, where he was declared dead.

Police sources said the footage of CCTV cameras in the area were being scanned to identify the vehicle.

A 71-year-old man slipped while trying to board a bus near the Big Bazaar outlet in Sealdah and injured his right knee around 11am. Sheikh Mianuddin, a resident of Baruipur in South 24-Parganas, has been admitted to NRS Medical College and Hospital.

Police said Mianuddin slipped and fell on the road while trying to board a crowded bus of the West Bengal Transport Corporation on route C 25.

The bus has been impounded and a case of rash and negligent driving has been started against the driver.

Two men riding a scooter were injured after a small goods vehicle hit the two-wheeler on Dufferin Road in the evening.

Mohammad Akbar Hossain, 34, and Sahid Iqbal, 36, both residents of Ekbalpore, were taken to SSKM Hospital with multiple injuries. The police said both were wearing helmets. The driver has been arrested and the goods vehicle seized.

A 52-year-old woman was knocked down by a vehicle on CIT Road, near ESI Hospital in Maniktala, around 12.10pm.

Minati Mandal, from the Sunderbans in South 24-Parganas, has been admitted to the Maniktala hospital. The police said the identity of the vehicle could not be ascertained.
