All students from classes I to VIII in Kendriya Vidyalayas will be promoted to the next class, according to a notice issued by the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) on Tuesday.
The schools have been asked to promote every student irrespective of their performance in the annual exams and even if they haven't taken the exams.
There are around 51 Kendriya Vidyalayas in the Bengal circle.
The heads of all the schools have been told to inform parents about the promotion of their wards to the next class. But parents are not to be called to schools, the heads have been told. They have to be texted or WhatsApped or emailed. Schools can post the information on their websites, too.
According to the notice, students of classes I and II will be promoted to the next class based on their performance in the monthly achievement tests of the last session.
Several Kendriya Vidyalayas had not completed the final exams of classes III to VIII in some subjects before the lockdown. These exams will not be held, an official of the Bengal circle of KVS said. Students will be assessed on their performance in class in the subjects, in which exams have not been held. Those who have missed any exam that has been held will be promoted based on their class performance.
'Students of classes I-VIII who have received an E grade in the final exams may be promoted to the next higher class without any improvement test,' the notice read.
Schools have been asked to promote students who were absent during exams on medical grounds, the principal of a KVS in Calcutta said. The decision to promote all students has been taken to avoid any delay in starting the new session once the lockdown is lifted, the principal said.
