Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee and governor Jagdeep Dhankhar are likely to come face to face on Tuesday when the Assembly will sit for a two-day special session to mark the 70th Constitution Day.

Speaker Biman Banerjee on Monday called an all-party meeting where he disclosed the names of the invitees for the session. They include Dhankhar, former Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar, ex-Bengal governors M.K. Narayanan and Shyamal Sen and chief election commissioner S.Y. Quraishi.

Advocate general Kishore Datta has also been invited.

The Trinamul Congress and Mamata herself had expressed discomfort with the governor’s habit of commenting on every subject that deals with the state administration.

On November 16 and 17, Trinamul’s delegations met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah and accused Dhankhar of exceeding his brief.

The ruling party has also said that Dhankhar is trying to run a parallel government.

Dhankhar and Mamata are likely to be together after a gap of almost a month following the governor’s visit to the chief minister’s south Calcutta residence on the occasion of Kali Puja.

“Both of them are likely to speak on Tuesday…. It will be interesting to see what they have to say,” said a source.

Initially, there was confusion over whether the governor would be invited for the Constitution Day celebrations in the Assembly amid reports that the Raj Bhavan was also organising a similar programme.
