If you want to undertake a trip to Dakshineswar temple, there is now a public bus that takes you there directly. For just Rs 15.

Route 285 was inaugurated on May 24, covering a distance of 45km from New Town to Baidyabati in Hooghly. According to sources in the transport department, nine buses have been deployed now. Each bus is doing three round trips daily.
The buses are now starting at an interval of 30 minutes. The first bus starts at 6am from Baidyabati and travels along Grand Trunk Road. While the cheapest fare is Rs 6, the highest for the entire length of the route, from Baidyabati to New Town bus stand, is Rs 30.

The buses are 30-seater and are a blessing for daily commuters to the IT sector from Hooghly district. Currently, the only other bus connecting the two areas is a Karunamoyee-Dankuni route.

The bus should also be of use to residents of New Town to travel short distances like Chinar Park to Eco Space or Eco Park to Narkelbagan or even reach the airport. The bus operators have suggested extending the route till route 206 bus stand in AJ Block. "That would help those working in Sector V who now have to get off at New Town and take another transport. It would also give us space to park. Right now, our buses are parked on the road near New Town bus terminus but the police are objecting to that for blocking the road. We cannot park inside the bus terminus as Hidco charges a fee," said Alok Maity, conductor of a bus on the route.
