The BK Block campus of Sri Aurobindo Institute of Education (SAIE) recently unveiled a bust of the sage the school is named after.

“We have come a long way and this would not have been possible without their blessings,” said Shankar Banerjee, secretary of SAIE, as he helped unveil the busts of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother.

“When Salt Lake was still an upcoming township, a few plots were allotted for schools. In 1982, we decided to build a school here based on the teachings of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, and finally in January 1983 the school opened,” said Mihir Kanti Basu, founder-member of the institute. “It’s wonderful to be recalling those days today, standing in that very school.”

While the school began in BK Block, it has another campus in CL Block now. “We had wanted to install these statues here for a long time, but were delayed due to a paucity of funds,” said Banerjee. “Previously we had stone carvings here which we shall shift to the library and open a study centre for our students there. Teachings of the greats will make youths not just good students but also good human beings.”
