“We have started empanelling kine house owners who will take care of the bulls. We will pay them for the service. We have decided to create additional space for such animals, as it will be able to help the empanelled agencies do their job with ease,” said civic body’s deputy commissioner Srimanta Mishra.

“The development of the kine house is going on full pace,” Mishra said.

For the stray dogs, the civic body has adopted a different method. The officials have shifted the focus from increasing the number of serialisation operations to catching them at various localities. “Catching stray dogs will be a priority,” said an official of the civic body.

In absence of proper methods to catch stray, these animals roam on the streets creating problems for the people. Frequent cases of accidents and traffic chaos have become a day-to-day affair for the people of the city.

“The hockey world cup is going to be the biggest event ever organised in the state. A number of visitors from around the world will be here to witness the event. At such a time, the visitors might not acquire a good image of the city if such stray animals roam on city streets,” said Debraj Tripathy, a resident of Soubhagya Nagar.

Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena said they were aware of the problems and taking rigorous steps to solve them ahead of the sports event. “We are not going to put the image of the city at stake,” Jena said.
