Sambalpur, May 9: Applicants to the Gangadhar Meher College will have more courses to choose from in the coming academic session.
The college authorities have decided to launch six new programmes and have written to the state government in this regard.
They have proposed to introduce certificate courses in journalism and mass media, business communication and multimedia skill, yoga and yogic medicine, diploma in medical and laboratory technology, and two other MPhil courses in education and geography.
“A meeting of the heads of the departments of the college was held followed by a staff council meeting to decide on launching six courses. If the government approves the proposal, the college will start the courses from the coming academic session,” said college principal Gangadhar Mishra.
“The elite and academicians in the area have demanded for upgrading the autonomous college into a unitary university. The college fulfils the eligibility criteria to become a unitary university,” Mishra said.
Academicians and students have expressed happiness over the proposal. Former principal of the college Sulok Sunder Mohanty said: “As it has been proposed to launch two more MPhil course in the college, students will not have to go outside to pursue higher studies.”
