Two new trains flagged off

Dhubri, Feb. 11: The Dhubri-Silghat Town (Nagaon) Express and Dhubri-New Jalpaiguri Inter-City Express were flagged off today from Dhubri and Cooch Behar respectively.

Former Bengal MP Joachim Buxla and north Bengal legislator Anil Adhikari flagged off the new train in Dhubri.

Buxla, while addressing the inaugural meeting held at Dhubri railway station, thanked the rail department for introducing the trains on the Assam-Bengal route, fulfilling a long-standing demand of the people of Dhubri and Cooch Behar. Chairman of Dhubri Municipal Board Himabrata Majumdar also thanked the department for introducing the two trains.

The meeting was also addressed by Dhubri deputy commissioner Sunil Dutta, legislators Jahan Uddin (Dhubri) and Abdur Rahman Ajmal (South Salmara), joint convener of New Moinaguri-Jogighopa Rail Demand Committee Tazmul Haque and chief convener of Dhubri Bikas and Pragati Manch Shyamal Sanyal. Sanyal welcomed the drivers and guards of the trains, which assumed service on the Assam-Bengal route after a long gap.

A railway source in Dhubri said the Dhubri-Silghat Express will arrive at Dhubri from Silghat at 5am and depart at 9pm, and Dhubri-New Jalpaiguri Inter-City Express will arrive in Dhubri at 12.30pm and depart at 1.00pm.
