Oct. 4: An Assamese movie, Rowd (sunshine), hit cinemas here today, premiering at Anuradha cinema this morning.

In this break-up-and-make-up love story, debutant director Gautam Baruah tries to associate love with sunshine — fading out and shining again — as the story, which revolves around the romantic relationship between the lead characters Ankit and Puja, progresses.

Though some scenes seemed to stretch unnecessarily, the audience warmly welcomed the film. Comic scenes by actors Jayanta Bhagwati and Hiranya Deka were especially well received.

Director Pulak Gogoi, producer Ashok Kumar Bishaya and Girish Chandra Bhattacharyya lit the inaugural lamp at the premiere.

Gogoi said he hoped the film would bring sunshine to the Assamese film industry, which has been going through rough weather for quite a while now.

Bishaya urged Assamese people to see the film. “I know people are busy these days. But if they come to cinemas to see an Assamese film every Sunday, it would help producers and directors make more films,” he said.

Rowd’s star cast includes Utpal Das, Moonmi Phukan, Diganta Hazarika and Monali Bordoloi, among others.

An M.B. Productions movie, Gautam Baruah wrote the story and Chirantan, Rupam and Akhim wrote the screenplay, while Chirantan and Rupam penned the dialogues.

The production had started on September 16 last year with a mahurat at Jyoti Chitraban. It was shot at different places like Shillong, Manali and Delhi. Singer Angaraag Mahanta recorded his first Assamese duet song, Pokhi pokhi mon mor, written by Rajdweep, for the movie.

Bishaya has decided to donate a part of the film’s profits to the flood-affected people in Dhemaji.
