Six die in Dibrugarh road mishaps

Six persons died and three were critically injured in separate road accidents during Vishwakarma Puja in Duliajan and Namrup in Upper Assam's Dibrugarh district.

Duliajan: Six persons died and three were critically injured in separate road accidents during Vishwakarma Puja in Duliajan and Namrup in Upper Assam's Dibrugarh district.

Sources said a fuel tanker (NL05 4163) knocked down a child and his mother at Namrup on Tuesday.

Both Rajpol Phukan, 6, and Momi Gogoi Phukan, 28, have succumbed to their injuries.

The driver of the tanker fled from the site.

On Monday night, a head-on collision between two motorcycles near Jayanagar area under Duliajan police station resulted in the death of Sambhu Rai, 36, on his way to the Oil India Limited hospital.

Three others - Suman Rai, 22, Rohit Chetry, 22 and Nikhil Sah, 20 - were seriously injured.

They have been admitted to a nursing home in Dibrugarh for treatment.

Sources said another head-on collision took place on Monday morning at OIL colony (near B-type) between two speeding motorbikes.

Both the youths, Binud Balmiki and Nil Roy, died on the spot.

An injured, Prem Dorjee, was admitted to Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh, where he died on Tuesday.
