Kokrajhar, Feb. 25: The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) is all set to get its first IT park.

BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary today laid the foundation stone of a Rs 26-crore IT park at Onthai Gwlao, Chandamari, nearly 4km northwest of Kokrajhar town.

The IT park will be constructed with funds from the Rs 250 crore special BTC package.

The secretary of BTC, Carol Narzary, said the park would provide technical resources and would also have provisions for multinational or corporate sectors to operate from it.

He said experts would be brought for the IT park at Kokrajhar and it would provide best services to the people and visitors.

Mohilary also said the BTC was giving priority to higher education, technical institutions and social projects for the benefit of the people in the region.

It plans to set up and complete such projects within the next five years, he added.

Mohilary hoped that tech institutions like IIT, IIM and central university would come up in the Bodo belt sooner or later.

Parliamentary secretary Parmeswar Brahma said the present day world was dependent on information technology but the people of BTC were lagging behind in this sector.

He said the IT park at Kokrajhar would help in gathering all kind of information and sharing with the rest of the world, which was an important factor for development of knowledge and civilisation.
