The Assam government, which has been facing flak for delaying the release of Rs 1 crore as promised to director Rima Das to promote her film Village Rockstars, handed over the amount to her on Thursday.
A two-line statement released by the chief ministers office on Thursday said, “The Assam government formally handed over Rs 1 crore to Rima Das. She received the money today.”
Jatin Bora, chairman, Assam State Film (Finance & Development) Corporation Ltd, told The Telegraph the money was transferred to Rima’s bank account. “The Assam government has fulfilled its commitment to her,” he said.
Rima said she had received the amount but had also heard that a 30 per cent tax might be deducted.
Asked about this, Bora said Rima’s chartered accountant would know better.
Rima said she was planning to go to New York in the first week of November to promote her movie.
“I will be accompanied by one or two leading crew members,” she added.
Appealing to the people for financial help, she said in a message: “It is crucial for our pride. The film Village Rockstars needs financial help from the people rather than waiting for government aid and income from screening. It is impossible to arrange huge money for a solo producer like Rima Das. Your help of a minimum Re 1 will benefit the film’s worldwide circulation and promotion for getting nomination for Academy Award. I want our huge funding to create a new world record.”
“You can donate in Rima Das Axis Bank account 915010045287396, IFSC UTIB0000020, bank branch Laxmi The Mall, building number 5, Laxmi Industrial Estate, Andheri, West Mumbai-400053. E-mail- firstname.lastname@example.org,” the message added.
